Ayam Zaman Restaurant - Syrian Dining at the Heart of London.

 

So I went to this restaurant to catch up with an old friend who I recall all the way back when I used to live in Abu Dhabi. We got to try out all the amazing food that's on display here. Ayam Zaman Restaurant is located on Uxbridge Road, Shepherd's Bush that serves a plethora of traditional Syrian / Middle Eastern dishes with a classic decor to match.

The dishes I have on display here are their special Chicken Shawarma platter, Kebab Halab, Falafels with tahini and Hummous Awarma.

Their special Chicken Shawarma is more or less similar to a traditional shawarma which is sliced marinated chicken from a rotating vertical rotisserie spit put into a large flatbread wrap along with fermented pickles and a special garlic sauce common to middle eastern cuisine known as toum. The exception here is that the wrap is pretty big and toasted then sliced into pieces and served with chips and kabees which is fermented turnips.

 

Kebab Halab is grilled minced lamb skewers which is made with an assortment of spices then topped with a spicy sauce, served with traditional Arabic flatbread and onion salad. 

Hummous Awarma is basically freshly made hummous, a chickpea dip made with chickpeas, olive oil, garlic, salt, lemon juice and tahini which is then topped with lamb meat and pine nuts. Once you have a taste of freshly made hummous there's no turning back to any other form of hummous out there as the taste is so buttery it has that whole melt in your mouth experience. This is not your supermarket's hummous no sirree.

Lastly we have Falafels, which many of you may be familiar with. They're deep fried fritters made out of chickpeas, fava beans ground with some spices and served usually with the tahini sesame dip. They make for great sides and are a great treat what with the crunchy exterior coming with the soft interior for a delectable experience. 

All in all, the whole culinary experience was exemplary, from the ambience to the service. It's definitely a place I'd recommend for all you Middle Eastern cuisine lovers.
